SPAR is a convenience store franchise which became one of Roadchef's partners for a decade.

The SPAR franchise is a common sight across Europe, including on Irish motorways, where stores are operated by BWG Foods. The UK stands out for being one of the countries which isn't as familiar with SPAR or its spin-off brands. Despite this, as of 2023, SPAR is believed to have the highest market share of all convenience store brands on the roadside, even though they don't have the most stores.

Their appearances at forecourts include those which were operated by EG Group. This saw SPAR's only appearance in a main motorway amenity building for a while at Rivington.

Roadchef Partnership

Roadchef trialled an arrangement with SPAR, where it was introduced to their forecourts in 2003, along with Costa and Delice de France. At the time, they said they were aiming to replace their reStore brand with SPAR, but the concept was soon withdrawn.

A new 10-year contract was agreed in June 2015. This saw large SPAR stores built as part of significant refurbishments to their busiest service areas.

These stores included products from Roadchef's own-brand Garden Square Deli, an in-store bakery and some locally sourced products. Their new format, named "Joy of Living Locally", was launched at Strensham, with more food to go options, self-service tills and electronic shelf edge labels. Click & collect was also made available.

Roadchef announced on 14 April 2025 that the expiring contract would see their SPAR stores replaced by a new Roadchef & Co-op collaboration. Their stores closed for the final time on 31 May 2025.
